I have a 2006 Volvo V50 T5 AWD with ~155,000 miles. I purchased this car winter of 21/22 and it has been a fine daily driver since. The car does have significant cosmetic issues, along with some working but days-numbered mechanical components. The car has a branded/rebuilt title that I transferred from North Carolina to Virginia. It was in a collision before I owned it, and the front end was completely repaired. I don’t have much documentation nor remember what exactly was repaired. I think the seller said something about a front axle and suspension parts, along with some light body damage. Things I have done to the car: replaced alternator, replaced spark plugs and all coil packs, replaced both front lower control arms, replaced both front moonroof drain tubing, replaced vacuum diaphragm that is integrated into the oil trap, replaced coolant hose, changed brakes and tires as needed.
Before I bought the car, replaced at 134,000 miles: timing belt, serpentine belt, front cam seals, R motor mount.
Exterior – body is intact, not scratched or dented. But clearcoat is compromised on hood and top of the car, with paint starting to fade/chip.
Interior – Worn leather seats with some tears and stains. Heated seats still work both sides. The moonroof drains failed a few years ago and were redone when the alternator was replaced. The car had let in significant water that I was able to remove without much appreciable effect – unsure of any electrical involvement. The moonroof started letting water in again this year, and I removed plastic from the A pillars to see if the drain had failed again. They appeared to be intact, so it is either the rear drains or some other part of the seal. I knew I wouldn’t be keeping the car so I put waterproof tape around the moonroof on the exterior of the car and it has kept the water out. The electric moonroof worked perfectly before the tape was applied. Although it has been dried and treated, the car still has a slight smell. The headliner on the bottom of the sunroof and length of the car has failed and is drooping all over.
Mechanical – Car definitely needs brake pads and possibly rotors. Tires are okay, not new. As far as I can tell, engine and turbo still make plenty of power. Transmission has never given me trouble. There is a check engine light on that I tried to fix with new coil packs and spark plugs. It could need a new wiring harness. It will read as cylinder misfire, random cylinder misfire. Again, engine is running fine with no loss of power or fuel economy. Suspension and alignment is rough, but I don’t know the extent of damage. I replaced the lower control arms because the worst damage appeared to be on those bushings. A tire shop told me they couldn’t align it because the other parts were so frozen in place, they would be afraid to break components. The heat works fine. The AC will blow cold when the car first starts, then blows warm after the engine is at temp…clutch is bad? The car has had a whiny (I think) brake booster vacuum pump since I bought it. I haven’t messed with it and it’s been fine.
